A Castle in the Clouds by Kerstin Gier
This was supposed to be a simple little YA rom-com palate cleanser. Not so!
I thought I’d forgotten how much a book could surprise me. This was just a simple little young adult rom com that was supposed to be a palate cleanser after a particularly dark book. Not so!A Castle in the Clouds by Kerstin Gier has a lot to offer. Sophie is a bit lost. She left high school and is doing a year-long internship at a boutique hotel in the Swiss Alps. She is away from her friends and family for the first time and learning to navigate the adult world. Some coworkers help and some are just nasty. That’s being an adult! There are difficult children that she must corral, there are wealthy guests who won’t be told no, and there is the son of the owner who is too hot to ignore. That’s just on the surface; there is more intrigue and adventure that anyone bargains for as an intern or a reader.
If you like books that begin with a charming setting and quietly become much more adventurous than expected, try The Book of Doors next. It also has that wonderful feeling of realizing the story you thought you were reading has something much bigger waiting for you. Read the review →
