A Room with a View (1986) James Ivory
One trip to Florence changes everything.
Watching A Room with a View (1986) is almost exactly like reading the book, even down to the chapter titles. If you love period films, as I most definitely do, this one is a dream with a dream cast! Helena Bonham-Carter is Lucy Honeychurch and Dame Maggie Smith plays her cousin, Charlotte. They have an adventure, and Lucy a bit of romance, in Florence where they meet an unusual group of fellow travelers, one of which is Dame Judy Dench! When she returns home, her fiancé, played by Daniel Day-Lewis, seems not to be as perfect for her as he was before her trip and meeting George Emerson, played by Julian Sands (RIP). Many other faces and landscapes will thrill you. There’s even a bit of male nudity for some extra spice! Merchant Ivory films never disappoint.
