Across the Green Grass by Seanan McGuire
A horse girl’s dream…with unicorns.
Seanan McGuire does it again with a short and wonderful fantasy land filled with centaurs and unicorns. It’s a horse girls dream in Across the Green Grass. Regan is at that point in life when the line between adult and child is so close you can touch it. Her friend group is insular, bordering on mean. Regan would do anything to stay in the inner circle and does. When her “best friend” casts her out and she finds a door where there shouldn’t be one, she is sure she wants to escape. The world she finds is full of magical creatures and she finds her people with a group of female centaur unicorn herders. As a human in this world, there are expectations that she wants no part of. She wants to stay a child for a bit longer. You can’t hide forever when the world has so many expectations. Regan steps up.
