Animal Farm by George Orwell
For such a short book it has a long reaching message that is still needed.
I don’t think it can be said enough that we are not learning from history. Politicians lie, we act surprised and the circle is unbroken. Animal Farm by George Orwell was trying to teach us this lesson back in the forties during World War II. He had just returned from Spain and was fighting in their civil war and he was able to observe the threat that Joseph Stalin was posing to the world. He was “Uncle Joe” when he was helping the Allies defeat Hitler, but no one was peeking behind the curtain at what was happening on his home front. So, this simple fairy story that takes place in a farmyard was shocking to those who didn’t want to believe the truth. For such a short book it has a long reaching message that is still needed. We are all still surrounded by pigs.
