I am a huge fan of Oyinkan Braithwaite.  Her debut, My Sister the Serial Killer is a favorite.  Not the story you think it will be.  I was greatly anticipating her follow-up and she did not disappoint.  Cursed Daughters is a visceral and emotional multi-generational tale of the women of the Falodun women and their daughters.  Though they may leave and think they have beaten the curse, it always sends them back to the family home.  Set in modern Nigeria we see these women fight and fight against the oppression of a scorned woman’s bitter words.  Family is sometimes the biggest burden we carry.  The hopes and disappointments heaped on the shoulders of the young who cannot comprehend how to carry them or offload them. What really gets through in the end is honesty and support.  We can all use more of that.
