Death and Glory by Will Thomas
Death and Glory by Will Thomas is the fifteenth installment in the Barker and Llewelyn series and I can’t say enough good things. It’s soothing, it’s exciting, this adventure included Confederates of the Civil War. Barker is the detective, he was born in Scotland, was raised in China, and has a Pekingese from the dowager empress to prove he was worthy of his fighting reputation. Llewelyn is his right-hand man, now a partner after their many travails. The Confederates ask for an introduction to the Prime Minister, nothing else. What ensues is a roller coaster of secret societies, gin mills, houses of ill repute and nothing less than the hijacking of a British warship. I suggest going back to the beginning of the series and meet the characters properly, but this was a great comfort read for me and we all need those.
