Open Throat by Henry Hoke
I didn’t know that I would like a book that was told from the point of view of a mountain lion. Open Throat by Henry Hoke was a surprise. I know that the bright pink cover with the toothy title was not to be ignored, but once you start reading it is easy to fall into. We don’t get our main characters name, just that it lives in a park in “ellay.” Carefully hiding and listening to the hikers that troop in front, never looking to see what may be in the shadows. You overhear talks about therapists, the environment, and everyone wanting to move to New York. It’s a great outsider's view of what we humans think is important, and who we think is important. You don’t know what is going on in anyone else’s life, including a big cat taking refuge in the safest place he can find in a sick city. Such an easy, yet profound read. Thanks to the random stranger who brought it to the book exchange!
