Phantom Thread (2017) Paul Thomas Anderson
When you have an amazing combination of actor and director there is no denying the outcome. In Phantom Thread (2017) you have the incomparable Daniel Day-Lewis, and directing him, Paul Thomas Anderson. Just the opening sequence is something to be savored. I could watch DDL pull his socks up on a loop, and I might have. Inspired to have a film set in a design house in London. Such wonderful costuming, not only for the customers but also the people that work there. The settings are understated and detailed. Leslie Manville playing the sister is a powerhouse performance that rivals the lead. It is a love story with all that entails. It’s not always beautiful, but it is always palpable. No one leads a perfect life and it’s a pleasure to watch.
