Tank Girl (1995) Rachel Talalay

It’s so 90s and I won’t apologize.  Tank Girl(1995) is an over-the-top comic adaptation.  There is a top-notch soundtrack put together by Courtney Love.  Amazing cameos, including Iggy Pop.  It’s the 2030s and a comet has hit the earth and there is no water.  Rebecca (Tank Girl) and her friends live outside the grid and are caught.  This leads to death for most and imprisonment for her.  The rest of the movie is about her fighting against Water and Power (who have all the power) with unlikely allies.  There is also a Cole Porter musical number, lots of violence, and some super-soldier creatures that you will not believe.  It’s hilarious, obnoxious, and kick ass.  Did I mention that Ice-T also makes an appearance?

If you like movies that build their own bizarre world and commit to it completely, watch Hedwig and the Angry Inch next. The stories couldn’t be more different, but both are loud, rebellious, and entirely uninterested in behaving themselves. Read the review →
