The Guncle by Steven Rowley
Patrick O’Hara is living his best life in Palm Springs. A pool, a housekeeper, and a thruple next door. The Guncle (gay uncle) by Steven Rowley begins as his world comes crashing down when he discovers his best friend has died. His best friend who is also his sister-in-law. At the funeral his brother asks him to take the kids for the summer while he is in rehab not too far away in the hopes that is will be a healing time for all of them. Maisie and Grant are lost with only a GUP (Gay Uncle Patrick) to guide them. At first it seems easy, just bike rides and lounging by the pool, but when Patrick finds out they don’t even know what brunch is, he knows has a lot of ground to cover. It is a bit of a predictable melodrama, but who doesn’t love a melodrama. Who teaches who about grief, life, and healing?
