The Neverending Story (1984)

What if a book didn’t end.

Getting lost in a book is nothing new for devoted readers.  Alas, the book always ends and you are back to life, back to reality.  That is why, as a child, the movie, The Neverending Story (1984) was so appealing.  What if a book didn’t end.  You can just keep living in the story for as long as you live?  Bastian is a kid that other kids do not understand.  He hides from some bullies in a bookstore and finds such a book.  He secrets himself away inside his school to read about a young warrior, Atreyu, sent on a quest to heal the Childlike Empress and we see the magical land that they all must band together to save.  There are monsters and villains but also helpers and healers and even a luckdragon.  It may seem a bit dated to modern eyes, but it is a comfort and I love the soundtrack.
