The Serial Killer Guide to San Francisco by Michelle Chouinard

Sometimes the right book finds you at exactly the right moment. The Serial Killer Guide to San Francisco by Michelle Chouinard found me when I was traveling in the Bay Area and I love to get a local book for atmosphere.  Capri Sanzio is a tour guide with special knowledge.  Not only does she know everything about San Francisco, her grandfather was Overkill Bill, a convicted serial killer.  She walks the walk and talks the talk.  When someone starts copying her grandfather’s crimes, the cops come knocking and she has zero answers and even more shocking when her own mother-in-law is one of the victims.  Capri has to clear herself and her daughter and finally get some answers to some old family questions.  This book takes you to all the landmarks and gives you true crime tidbits along the way!

If you like your amateur detectives clever, nosy, and deeply embedded in San Francisco, Vera Wong’s Unsolicited Advice for Murderers is an easy next stop. Vera has a very different family history, thankfully, but she shares Capri’s inability to leave a mystery alone once it lands in her lap. Read the review →
