Water Moon by Samantha Sotto Yambao
In Water Moon by Samantha Sotto Yambao, Hana and her father run a pawn shop. When he retires it is her responsibility to run it. It is no ordinary pawnshop. When she wakes up on the day her father is gone and the store is a wreck, but there is something missing and if she doesn’t find it, it could mean her life. This book is magical and adventurous with just a hint of romance. Much like Murakami ordinary people do extraordinary things simply because they need doing. While this journey is more magical than most it seems entirely relatable. Are possessions really what is valuable in your life or is it the people? The people and places are wholly original to me, and I marveled at the worlds Samantha Sotto Yambao created. If you are lucky enough to get a hardback edition the jacket can be folded into a paper boat for your own adventures.
