Gilda 1946 by Charles Vidor
If you only see one Rita Hayworth movie, I think it should be Gilda. Glenn Ford, Hayworth and George Macready play a very awkward triangle in this movie. The subtext is all. There is so much going on underneath the story that the plot line seems almost quaint. Ford is down on his luck in South American when he meets Macready and invites him to help run his illegal gambling establishment. All is well until Gilda shows up. Her marriage to Macready’s character seems to be a problem on all fronts. Who is jealous of who? Just assume they all are. Great musical numbers and dances by Hayworth and the wardrobe is va-va-voom!
