Wong Kar-Wai is a director that can make you swoon and break your heart.  Just like a good romance.  In the Mood for Love (2000) is an exceedingly good romance.  Mrs. Chan and Mr. Chow are neighbors in a very busy building in Hong Kong.  They pass each other in the hall, in the street, and on the stairs to the corner noodle shop.  Mrs. Chan has a dress for every day of the year and they are stunning in their vibrancy and fit.  It is the 1960s and everyone is smoking like they don’t know what cancer is.  It is so hot.  They are proper, they are friends, but then something happens and the line between friends and lovers is blurred.  The setting, the costumes, and the characters make it a must see for those who don’t need to see it all to know it happened.  This is a love story I can go back to again and again.
