My Darling Clementine John Ford 1946

For fans of Tombstone, My Darling Clementine offers another take on Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday. It's a quiet, black-and-white western where revenge, friendship, and fate all ride together.

For fans of Tombstone, My Darling Clementine offers another take on Wyatt Earp, his brothers, and Doc Holliday. The Earp brothers are driving cattle in the rain when they’re intercepted by the Clanton gang. Going into town for a simple shave changes the course of their lives. They arrest a drunk, have a drink, and get the much-needed shave - only to return and find the brother they left behind shot in the back and all their cattle gone. This is more than enough to convince the Earps to stay and clean up the town while waiting for revenge. Enter Doc Holliday. Will he be friend or foe? It’s a fine line in the West. The erstwhile Clementine seems to be just a pretty distraction for Holliday and Earp while not contributing much to the story. Apparently, producer Darryl Zanuck didn’t love what John Ford created and cut the film to his own specifications, making it almost unrecognizable to the director. A sweet watch for a day when you want something black and white playing softly in the background.
