Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir

A middle school science teacher, alone in space, trying to save the world.

Project Hail Mary is out in the world now and no mistake.  It was a pleasure to picture Ryan Gosling while I was reading the book.  I try not to read the book and watch the movie so closely, but when the book club picks it, I read it.  I’m usually opposed to being trapped in space, or under water, or buried alive, but this book didn’t make me feel claustrophobic.  There is also a lot more humor than I thought and so much science and math.  I tended to let my eyes slide over those portions like words I don’t know how to pronounce.  Grace is in space and his task is to save the world from the microscopic Astrophage that is slowly dimming the sun.  That means extinction for all life on Earth.  Can he stop it?  What is a middle school science teacher doing on this mission?  Who is Rock?  Gotta read to find out the finer details.  We’ll see if the movie stacks up.
