The Taste of Things (2023)
You may be able to tell by now that I love movies that respect the kitchen. Director, Anh Hung Tran has a great talent for filming cuisine. The Taste of Things (2023) shows us in detail the making of a gourmet meal cooked by chef Dodin Bouffant and Eugenie and their assistants Violette and Pauline. Every step is detailed, from picking the vegetables to dusting off the wine. The rhythm of the work has a precision that is also comfortable. These are people at ease with their work and with each other. Juliette Binoche, as Eugenie, is woman who know that she loves food and cooking and would do nothing to change her life. Dodin wants to change that and make her his wife, even trying to seduce her with an elaborate meal he prepares himself. This film is exquisite in its execution.
