The Wind Rises by Hayao Miyazaki
If you are looking for something quiet and powerful to watch you can’t beat the Studio Ghibli film, The Wind Rises by Hayao Miyazaki. Jiro Horikoshi has always loved the idea of flying and does all he can to achieve his goal of becoming an aeronautical engineer. He eats, sleeps and genuinely dreams of planes. There is an element of simple beauty to Miyazaki’s animation style. Huge landscapes and wind playing over the long grass make you sigh in comfort. There is also a love story between Jiro and a young artist, Nahoko Satomi. They have many obstacles to overcome, including World War Two. But their love and Jiro’s success are assured. You can’t go wrong if you watch the subtitled or the dubbed version. Both have excellent casts chosen by Studio Ghibli. I’m sure you’ll be hearing more about this animation studio in the future.
