Frankissstein by Jeanette Winterson
Love is nothing, if not complicated. Jeanette Winterson specializes in complicated. Not just love but humanity and their relationships not just with each other but also with technology. We are coming closer and closer to that singularity. In Frankissstein, Winterson converges a few story lines to make for a disturbing and sideways look at romance and how we relate, or don’t, to each other. Pre-pandemic I was humbled to go to a reading and it was an honor to hear the author read her own words making it possible to hear her voice as I was reading. It's an astonishing look at the past and the future. We are all many and few. Winterson is one of the few writers I know that could combine Mary Shelley, AI, sex dolls, and queer love. She is just that talented.
