The Northman by Robert Eggers 2022

There is nothing new under the sun.  All stories start from myths, and The Northman is a classic Viking tale that you may recognize if you’ve ever seen or read Hamlet.  Alexander Skarsgard is a prince whose father was murdered by his brother.  He escapes and vows revenge. Eggers is known for his meticulous research and attention to detail as a former production designer.  You can tell in the costumes and sets that it is all period accurate.  The language and syntax may be as well, and it seemed a bit stilted to my modern ears.  There are also a lot of different accents that made it much more difficult.  This is full of blood, abs, bloody abs and so much Skarsgard.  He is what you picture when you think of a Viking warrior.
